Sudoku is not a favorite of mine. It uses those funny little things called numbers....
And the crossword couldn't have been too much of a nightmare for the flames, I noticed you got in the list of top finishers, lol. Woot! :dle:

As much as I like Soduko, the VFK one is CRAZY hard.  :waveb:

It also just lists the top 10 winners, btw.

OH...and no 'save' option like the crossword puzzle.

150 credit award for solving it.

I agree Flame, the VFK Sudoku puzzle is a very difficult one. One where you almost have to guess at a number to keep moving forward. I wish there was a way to mark your guess in red, etc. so you can go back and fix it if it is wrong. I play Sudoku on the Nintendo DS with "Brain Age". I think I am spoiled because you can even place multiple guesses in a box until you narrow it down.

Sadly, there are puzzle solvers for Sudoku also. Before I logged off last night, a first Sudoku puzzle had popped up. I ws soooo tired, I didn't give it a shot, but I noticed the first person of that puzzle was done VERY quickly. I don't want to falsely accuse, but both King and I wondered if they used a Sudoku Solver. Maybe that is why VFK is only doing credits for the Sudoku puzzles.

Yeah, I like the Brain Age sudoku, too.  Nice features.

I think it's a mistake to give out uber-rare prizes for the crossword and sudoku games when there are readily available 'solvers' online that will do it in half a minute.  Too easy for people to cheat.

I have not even looked at this Sudoku puzzle. After seeing you all saying it's difficult I won't even attempt it. I never do well on them.

I think the problem is, both of these puzzles (Crosswords and Sudoku) are usually very relaxing for me. I LOVE word and number puzzles and they relax my nerves. However, the pressure of doing them for a rare prize takes that relaxation out of the game. Thus, activities I usually enjoy become more of a stressful thing.

Not sure if that makes sense??? :??:

I agree, Wendy.  :(  Rushing through something makes it hard to relax.  LOL.  Fun had I think the best idea of just paying the same credits to everyone who finishes.  No pain, no strain.  No need to cheat to win a super-rare prize (even though I'm sure there are people who will still cheat).

How is the list of winners generated?  When I click the button "Check Winners" for the crossword it seems that you can type on that list  O_o

It's auto-generated from VFK.  The fastest to finish, gets posted.  Additional titles are added, as people finish, up to a certain amount of players that VFK sets as a limit.

I also agree that there should not be a totally rare prize for either of these games.  Credits only.

You know, at first I thought it was just a prize for the FIRST time the crossword was done. Kinda a celebration extra. But, in a way, I guess that would be even worse. A single item in the game. My the rarity of it, lol.
And I agree, a prize for the first finisher of a crossword kinda defeats the purpose. Both crosswords and sudoku are side games that shouldn't involve fast reflexes and shooting, a faster than average computer. You are supposed to think and exercise your brain with puzzles. An occassional bit of credits if I actually manage to solve one is cool. It is too bad it looks like they are going to be changed daily. Takes me much much longer than that....

Yes I agree Golden; a won-time ever only prize would have been worse.  There are things that really bother me about  this whole thing, and I am still tryingto sort it all out.  I know that I am an intelligent person; and I also know that there are lots of intelligent kids out there.  But I am disturbed because this kind of intense competition feeds a frenzy to be that FIRST person; to get that rare prize.  I most definately believe that this opens up the temptation to use a search site to "just get the answers as fast as possible".  YUP, I have that little faith in VFK players.

That might sound pretty sad to some, but it is the truth.  And especially when you have ADULTS on other forums suggesting the use of such places.

I just don't like this whole set up!  I would love to see the top 5 or top 10 finishers get this prize; and man, VFK really could stand to be a bit more generous with the credits here, considering that these puzzles so far have been rather difficult.

And there you have my .02 for the day

I did like the idea of crosswords. Emphasize the word did. Until I had done half the puzzle and lost it because they put up a new one. I do not find crosswords easy. But I was trying. Then poof. After that I clicked out and did not come back for the rest of he evening.

Having a super rare lamp for a prize rewards cheating not intelligence. If they want to be fair. What they could have done is say

for this time period all completed crosswords would be put in a draw. Now I see the problems with this how do we really know they drew them.

Or they could program a special code that say here is 250 credits or here is a lamp. They could prgram that really easy.

Great idea but bad follow through. Maybe they can tweek it :)
