NEW Room contest- Water Theme!
« on: May 31, 2010, 04:16 PM »

Room Building Blitz - Water Theme!

Cowabunga, it's almost summer and the time is so right for a water themed room contest.

You've got the talent, the mad skills, the judgement, but can you bring them all to bear in just 90 minutes?

Blitz is a chess term for a game that is fast and furious and the winner is decided in moments.

This Saturday, June 5th, we will have a Room Building Blitz and the winners will be known in just 90 minutes.

Here's the blazing blitz schedule (all times are Pacific Time in the afternoon)

At 3:30 you enter your room in the contest, any furni in the room is automatically stored.
At 3:31 you start building and you have 45 nail biting minutes to create your masterpiece.
At 4:15 your room locks automatically and your masterpiece is complete.
At 4:16 you start judging, select Judge Rooms from the Menu.
At 4:45 judging is complete and you drop your smoking mouse!
At 5:00 winners are announced and prizes awarded!
Do you have the skills and the speed, only 90 minutes will tell!

So, get fast with your mouse, even get building with a little help from your friends, but remember, you have just 45 minutes to create your masterpiece!

The top 5 places in our Room Building Blitz will receive:

Room Building Blitz Pin
Room Building Blitz Trophy
All the items in the picture, smoke not included

Wood Desk - Cherry
Office Chair - Black
Computer Monitor- Black
Mouse and Pad - Blue

Hmmm, we will be at church during this event. However, it is happening during the second service, while our son is in his Jr. High group and the rest of us hang out in the atrium. (We attend the first service) So, looks like we might be taking our laptops with us and building/judging then.

This does make it hard for families that share computers. We decided we will work together and just do 2 entries as a family. For other families that share computers, there is no way everyone can build a room using the entire 45 minutes. Too bad they didn't work out a different schedule. For example, from 10am EST until 3pm EST you can build your room. However, once you enter your room during that time frame, you have only 45 minutes and then your room is locked. This would give families a chance for each person to build his/her room. Then judging could run from 3pmEST until 8pm EST. Again, once you begin judging, you only have 30 minutes and again the entire family would get their 30 minutes to judge rooms. Then winners could be announced by 9pm EST. A one day building blitz. :)

I imagine this might be a way to stop clones from bombarding an event like this. For us, no worries, this still sounds like fun and like I said, we already discussed building 2 rooms as a family and if we are lucky enough to win something, the kids can have the prizes. Thanks for the info, Pix, I will try to add a picture of the prizes to the first post here soon.  :)

This sounds very fun and interesting but I agree with Wendy about it being hard with families who have to share a computer.  This isn't a problem for us though since my daughter and I are the only two that play but we usually attend church on Saturday and it is right during this entire event.  Not sure if we'll be entering but it looks like a lot of fun.  I sure wish there would have been a couple different times to enter.

Hi Lisu, if you look at Pixie's date and time, you will see that she started the topic yesterday evening.  While you started one today.  Rather than have two threads about the same thing, I merged both yours and Pixie's.  Merging looks at the posts, and arranges them in order of date and time they were written.  You were only last, as noone has happened to post since you.  So it wasn't Pixie (other than having started it earlier) it was me, merging them.   ;)

Okay, I set a timer for 45 minutes (after having cleared my room), and I found out two things in rebuilding it.  One was pleasant, I finished building with 13 minutes to spare.

The other not so pleasant - when I let the room clear itself back into inventory, turns out not everything went there.  I had to go buy 3 pieces of rock support!  So word of caution.. remember where you bought everything so if this happens to you, you can quickly buy more.

Wo that is freaky!  Yes remember where they came from, but perhaps stock an extra or two just in case?

GL to all those who will be brave enough to enter this thing; I have not decided yet.  I may just need to take a break and sit this one out.

Or else stock extra items on a spare peep that loads quick; or keep some stock items in another empty room of yours....then run there like crazy!

I hope I am wrong, but I just had a thought as I re-read the rules and timing.

So you are going to be in your room at 3:30, and they will strip the room.  How will they know who is part of the contest?  If someone just happened to be in one of their rooms at 3:30, would they strip that room?  Now THAT could be terrible!

Sounds to me like they should have put a warning up, that if you do not wish to participate in the contest, then stay out of your rooms at 3:30.  :??:

I interpreted it to mean:

at 3:30 you enter your room into the contest (like with a button as we did with other contest)
And once you entered the room by using contest button, then it strips your room.....

But, I could be wrong!

That sounds like a better idea.  But "contest button"?  I know my mind is a sieve lately, but I don't recall any contest button, nor where it would be.

When they announced contest for Garden, it was found, I think, towards the right side of our pop up box for 'i' room button.  It shows there only when they have a contest to enter.

I'm guessing they did not allow it to show in our rooms yet due to timing and clearing of rooms.

GUESSING it will work like this: DO NOT know FOR SURE THOUGH

1 - go to our room for water contest
2 - click " i " room button - locate the "enter contest" button on the room pop up box and click to enter
3 - at the time of "enter contest" button clicked - it will clear room and start the clock countdown.

But, this is only in my mind   ...who knows what VFK will do.

By the way, Loved your room Ducky! Thanks for showing us last night!

Thanks funfly for that info.  I was wondering too how this would work.  I plan on having an empty room to begin with...that is if I even enter the contest.  My room is rather pathetic...not sure I'll enter it.  I'm afraid it won't be much of a water room since the water in the room is minimal.  I would however love to judge the other rooms so I might just enter for fun.

Quick question...I have an ancient computer so I'm worried about the lag and my computer freezing.  Would I be able to log out and back in if need be during the judging in case I freeze or during anytime through this whole contest?

ARG!!! i cant get my furniture to load!!! Difficult to build a room without any inventory. Lost 10 minutes so far, tried refreshing, tried just leaving it. And I've got a really good computer. sigh. Managed to put in 12 posts, then nothing else with load.

I never would have made it without that extra 15 minutes. Once my inventory finally loaded, i didn't close it again. Made it in the way for moving furniture around, but worked.

Yep, I am too.  The loading room rating form seems to be stuck for me.  I've refreshed a few times but still won't work.

rofl, if I thought I saw a lot empty rooms the first time around for judging .... oh boy!   :rofl1:

I only judged about 14 rooms, maybe a few less.

This event was a little messed up to say the least.

I guess we just wait now, no idea if announcements will come as an in-game blast or via Homepage.   :??:

I was surprised at all the rooms I saw with very little water...I thought this was a water theme event???

Not a smooth event but I really like the idea of this whole thing.  Maybe next time it will run much smoother.  I'd like to see them do it again.  I just hope I can judge more rooms...I had problems and probably saw no more than ten rooms.

I had all the same problems, no furniture at beginning, and troubles judging.  The first 3 rooms I judged had literally nothing in them, then I advanced to the 2 rooms that used one of those edge of the ocean type rooms, and only added a piece or two of furniture! LOL

Finally I started getting the more serious rooms, but on one beautiful room, just like the rest of you, the judging box got stuck.  I never did get to see the room again.  They told me to refresh, when i got back the judging was over.  I think I saw about 15 rooms.

It is my opinion, based on everyone having these judging issues, that not every room got judged even once.  I hope I am wrong.

I'm very worried you are right about some rooms not even getting judged.  My daughter and I judged probably about ten rooms each and one of the rooms we both saw.  I know I will never know, but I'll be upset if my daughter's room or mine weren't judged.  My daughter spent a lot of time working on how she wanted her room beforehand and if it was not judged it will irk me since most of the rooms I saw were terrible...one empty, some with no water and some with very little.  I would say only one out of the ten I saw was worthy of a great score.  Sorry I am saying this about these rooms but it's just how I feel.  With all the glitches going on, there needed to be more time to judge.

yep, I agree.  I highly doubt that EVERY single room even got looked at.  Sadly.  There are probably some amazing rooms that were not even seen.

Good Luck to everyone that entered!   :clapping:

Well I know for sure that there were AMAZING rooms from this board.  I'm always in awe at all of your rooms and how creative they are.  It would be such a shame if they didn't get judged.

I think I had every emotion known to man kind with this!  :rofl1:

Yes, loading issues... stacking issues... I did not finish the room the way I planned.. but it got done! I mostly challenged myself to my limits, hand hurting and all.. Mostly did this for the fun part of it and also did it with no practice, but only a mere sketch in my head. I did some mistakes and kicked myself for them... but oh well! This was a great experience!

As for the judging. I judged some nice rooms.. with lovely pools, lakes, rivers... and even a sea bottom room! Very imaginative rooms to many players out there. However, I did some empty rooms with no furnish at all! And some furniture rooms!

I was amazed at a few rooms during judging! And really was impressed at how quickly a person could make a room.

Good luck to all who entered!

I gather that this hour-and-a-half of waiting for results, is because they are doing some rating of rooms missed.. they should have let us go on judging..

Finally I started getting the more serious rooms, but on one beautiful room, just like the rest of you, the judging box got stuck.  I never did get to see the room again.  They told me to refresh, when i got back the judging was over.  I think I saw about 15 rooms.

+1  Couldn't get on game.  Then inventory wouldn't load.  Judging problems.  I saw boatloads of people being spit out at the Opera House wondering what to do next.  I put on my Mermaid pin and hit the Judge button again and it took me to an undersea room.  There I got stuck for about 5 minutes with a 'loading room' box.  Eventually I got out of it, but maybe 10 rooms judged tops.  Ironically, the next several rooms all 3 of us were sent to!  So I'm wondering how 'random' the judging was...  I was shocked that all 3 of us all ended up in those same rooms.  I was also stunned at the number of people who were being spewed out at the Opera House.  And the last room was the most amazing....and they took the rating buttons away before I could judge it!  Sigh.

This was a last-minute decision for us.  I thought it was going to be at 3:30 EST.  :hmm:  Oops.  We were out.  While we were out, .It asked me if I'm sure that we're not doing it.  I said that it's too late now.  She said no, there's plenty of time.  Then she told me when it was supposed to start.   :shy:

So me, Hero and .It made separate rooms at the last minute.  Hero probably did the best out of the 3 of us.  We all tried our best, having only like a half hour to prepare ROFL.

This event had serious issues.  I think the results would be much different if the rooms were able to be judged properly.  Whatever.  It's too late now...and we'll never know.

Congrats to the winners.  Better luck next time to the losers.

You're right...issues.  Inventory not load to be able to build....then judging button not in my Menu button...then finally it shows up after I send message and keep refreshing.

Then I start judging when it eventually loads....blech

I went quick but not quick enough as I never got through many to judge.

However, I had fun building my third or fourth idea for the contest.  My first one, I could not put back together again when I was timing myself
