Happy Thanksgiving Day! Today we celebrate one of America's oldest holidays! In 1621, our forefathers held the very first Thanksgiving to give thanks to God for a bountiful harvest. In 1789, George Washington gave the first official Thanksgiving proclamation wherein, he set aside Thursday, November 26th as "A Day of Publick Thanksgiving and Prayer." He stated that the holiday was to "be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God." For our quest today, let's take a look at the history of Thanksgiving Day!
