It’s Halloween at SmallWorlds (we hear that Beethoven’s decomposing…)
October 26th, 2008 - Hilary Jackson

Did you know that Halloween got its start thousands of years ago? The Celtic Druids celebrated a holiday known as Samhain on October 31st, the Celtic new year.  A large bonfire would be built and sacrifices made to the dead, while people would dress up in animal skins and try to tell their own fortunes (perhaps with a similar success rate as the “professionals”!). The night of Samhain began to be called All-hallows Eve and, eventually, Halloween.

Okay - end of history lesson. It’s all very interesting to know these ancient origins, but we think that the best thing about Halloween is having good, scary fun with friends and we’re hoping that you’ll spend some of your Halloween here on SmallWorlds!

Slice of maggot pizza anyone?
We’ll be swapping some standard items in your inventory with some spookier versions to help you scare your friends (all pizza’s will be covered in writhing maggots, all spa pools shall be transformed into pools of green slime – plus more!). We’re also releasing three or four new items, available exclusively over the Halloween period. There’s a haunted pumpkin head as a wearable item; witch and vampire spells; plus a whole lot more – you’ll need to come on in-world and see it all for yourself.

Happy Halloween Hall (pictured below) is the place to come and buy your special Halloween items.

Halloween Spaces to Visit
Come take a tour of some of the great Halloween-themed rooms created by members of the SmallWorlds community – all designed to raise a prickle of fear on the back of your neck!

Creepy Hollow

A frighteningly great place to go while away some time this All Hallows Eve – crafted by SmallWorlds member Trace Blue. Hang out in the graveyard, but hey; have some respect for the dead and don’t sit on the tombstones!

Halloween Town - Sleepy Hollow

A terrifyingly huge space to really get yourself lost in! Incorporating a mission, Van Tassells Parlour, The Sleepy Hollow Cemetery and The Sleepy Hollow Café; for some creepily good cuisine.

The Haunted Mission

Don’t go alone… make sure you take a friend with you when you visit Rawhide Kidds’ Haunted Mission. Feel your knees quake as you perilously make your way through.

Just as much as it’s about scaring, Halloween is about fun. We’ve gone and dredged up a few of our favourite Halloween jokes for you:

What is Beethoven doing in his coffin right now? Decomposing
What is as sharp as a vampires fang? His other fang
What do you call a ghost in a torn sheet? A holy terror
What did Dracula say after reading all these jokes? They suck!
From all of us here at SmallWorlds, enjoy Halloween!
