You can go to your friends by searching for them -- I've used this search so many times...when did they add where your friend is located, so you can go to them? If it's been here for a long time, I wish I had known about it!

EDIT: I think it's been there all this time, but I've just never seen anyone any place where I could follow, I guess. They're planning new updates (if you haven't seen the announcement)...it will allow you to see many things about your friends...probably too much LOL.  I hope we get the option to hide some things.

Where do you do this search at? Can you please give me step by step directions??

Community --> Search. Put name in the "Search by Tag" box, click ALL and "Search." If your friend is somewhere you can follow, it will give you the link under their avi.
