I finally gave in and decided I would  give up Brownie and his tricks to get this mission done.

When I went "Home", I chose to edit him, rather than delete him though.. figured it was worth a try.  I left him the same, just changed his name to Smoggo.  Went to the Spa, someone patted him.. and I passed the mission!! 

But the best part of all, I went back home, and chose to edit Smoggo, changed the name back to Brownie, logged in and tried his highest trick, chase tail.. it worked!! 

You don't have to delete your pet (unless it is a cat)!

Great Find Ducky!  Thanks for sharing!  Many people will be very happy to know this, as I know of a few that have put off this part of the mission, for this exact reason of losing their original pet.

aww when I tried that I could not edit his name I had to delete and start over.
