If you get a chance - watch the opening ceremonies! (even though long it is AMAZING! There is a 'world' type sphere that reminds me of Epcot :) )

A lot for Canada to live up to for the next Olympics in 2010.

In case you are curious:
By The Numbers

   •   $100 million  A low estimate for the cost of the opening ceremony. That's about $476,000 per minute and almost $8,000 per second and more than twice the cost of the 2004 Athens opening ceremony
   •   91,000  The number of spectators at National Stadium
   •   35,000  The number of fireworks set off during the ceremony
   •   2,583   The number of lights used during the show, drawing 6,440 kilowatts

I think the 2,008 drummers they had were pretty amazing!   :2thunbs:

I have to say it was with mixed feelings that we began to watch the opening ceremonies tonight. We love watching the Olympics, but were feeling very torn about many human rights issues in China. But, I knew the opening ceremonies would be amazing - and they were!

Astro, we also loved the drummers! Wow! And how about all of those boxes moving around - with the people underneath! Reminded me of those "pin tables" they used to have in "Imageworks" at Epcot. And something I really loved was that everyone stepped across those giant "stamp pads" and tracked their feet across the giant painting during the Parade of Nations. Very stunning and beautiful images!  :clap1:

Purpleduck:
Thanks Real for the pics and the stats!  I had to miss the opening   and it does look like I missed a lot.  The pics you got there are gorgeous!

Yes ~ I really liked the giant "stamp pads" too, during the Parade of Nations, I almost forgot about that.  Pretty neat idea!  And the moving boxes were cool too.  Very creative ideas for the ceremonies ~ as always!  Fun to watch!   :thumb:
