Sandcastle Competition!
This coming Sunday, August 8th, 2010 is the 30th Annual U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition!
Summer is just not Summer without Sandcastles at the beach!
Get ready for a Sandcastle competition and a release of our amazing Sandcastle building items!

OK, so we have not been in game much at all lately and so many scavenger hunts and stuff had me a little discouraged. You know how we all get at times. Real life takes over and there are times when we need to step back from our online games a bit. The game has not been as much fun for me recently and we have been re-evaluating how playing VFK fits into things with so much going on here.
That being said, this update has me excited. Not even so much that there is a contest, but the idea of sandcastle building pieces. That is a creative idea and sounds like something that would be lots of fun. :thumb:

Thanks Fish.i! This sounds like a cool event...until I remember the past several contests. LOL. I'll be entering a lame room. Not worth my time for the hassle. :hmm: Personal opinion as usual.

I had a lot of fun building my room, but the lag in it is CRAZY! Are you guys experiencing a lot of lag in your rooms too? I'm worried people will freeze up when they try to judge it -- sorry in advance if that happens to you!
I can't wait to see what everyone has come up with for this competition! One thing I have noticed lately, is that people are getting a lot better at building on VFK!

Yes, me as well. I tried to lessen the lag while building, and put a couple of pieces I knew would lag....in last.
I also agree players are getting very good at building after these competitions too!
And well, you know you would all hear from me while judging ... Here is one example, of a few of the rooms I have had the honor of judging. :hmm: I mean really? Throw at least 1 sandcastle piece in there! RAWR! :ls:

I didn't have much lag in my room, but there's not a bunch of stuff in it (no time and little interest). The carpets add a ridiculous amount of lag to any room, I know that. The new beach rooms will naturally have an amount of lag before even placing items into them because of the animation of the waves.
I try to build my rooms with the least amount of lag possible. I never use the carpets. My philosophy is that the less people who freeze, crash or take a long time to load, the more people who will get to see and judge my room. Not sure if that's faulty logic, though. I might score better with less people judging it. LOL

I had that same room too. I'm sorry but one beach chair does not a beach theme room make! lol
But, I have seen several very good rooms this time! :)

See what happens when you take a week off to go on vacation, miss lots of stuff on vfk, lol. But that's okay, was building real sandcastles on the beach, so can't complain! Good luck to all of you who entered and judged!!!!

Agreed! I noticed lag.....put lag stuff in last. But, I too am excited in seeing these rooms with the building that is improving!
With the exception of that room pic Astro lol - I got to give that a "zero" when I got to judge it!
Update: I did see about 3 - 4 rooms with absolutely not a single item of sand castle. Zero for them - they probably just wanted to judge rooms. I can say that I saw some really awesome rooms which definitely showed thought and planning and some terrific building! Others were simply done rooms -like I do - nothing spectacular but at least effort and thought is shown as well. Nicely done to those players who truly participated in building! :clap1:

I finished my judging. Saw tons of nice sandcastles. Gave out a bunch of '10's, too (which is unusual for me). I will say that things started to look the same after awhile. It's kindof hard to NOT make a nice sandcastle with the elaborate pieces...and the huge selection of different pieces.
Personally, I think they should eliminate the 'theme' rating. I think it should go without saying what the theme SHOULD be, and we should just have to give an overall rating for each room. It would eliminate alot of confusion, I think. Then again, what do I know? :hmm:

First, let me say sorry about my room. I have been sooooo sick and just built something Sat. before closing. It doesn't look unfinished, at least to me, but I wanted to do so much more with it like add the cave eyes.
Now with that out of the way, I wanted to say, I actually gave out a 10/9 vote today and a 10/10 vote today (for the Little Mermaid Room and SpongeBob room because of such wonderful imagination). Unfortunately I have also got some rooms like Astro and even got one that was a beach room with nothing in it. I reported each room, but it is hard to describe them when it just says My Contest Entry. I mean come on, a bunch of green chairs (from the trade can) and 2 teleporters (leading out of the room which is SUPPOSE to be against the rules) does not make a sandcastle room! Geez! :mad: >:[ :mad:
