Title: Space Pirate Scoring
Post by: Pink on July 02, 2009, 02:32 PM
OK, my fellow pirates!  This scoring system/credits thing is driving me BONKERS!  I'd like to work on improving my game, but I can't figure out how the scoring works.  Is it better to vaporize or not?  Is it better to fire like crazy or just fire a few well aimed shots?

I took screenshots of my most recent game.  Please don't laugh at my score, LOL!  Anyone up to playing a game against me?  Haha!  :drunk:

So looking at the screenshots, can ANYONE MAKE SENSE OF ANY OF THIS?  I'm not finding a pattern.  I swear, I'm sitting here right now with a calculator, LOL.  Anytime I figure out one round and think I've got it, the same rules don't apply to the others.... so I'm STUMPED!

Maybe if we all put our heads together, the light may dawn??   :sos:

Hi! I am in the confused club too!  :lolp:

I'm confused too but here's some more data for your consideration:  :hmmmm:

I think that your opponent builds up a hidden point value as they shoot and make hits. You can then earn those points by hitting them. That would explain why you can vaporize another ship and not earn any points. If that ship never fired it's cannons then it hasn't built up any internal value. This is probably something VFK built in to prevent us from just blowing our mules away for credits.

More points seem to be earned when there is a good volley of fire between the ships in a round. That way both ships are building up internal value and earning points for their hits. Again, probably intentional since there is no benefit for good players to blow away newbs. Players should seek out players with similar abilities.

This may also explain why math on the scores is difficult to work out. For example: If a hit were worth 5 points and you hit your opponent 6 times you might expect to get 30 points. But if that opponent had built up 10 points in internal point value then that's all you get. At the end of the round you would be left trying to figure out how you got 10 points from 6 hits.

Thanks for the experimentation, Pete!  Looks like you played a few games with your mule, LOL!

I think you're definitely onto something.  I noticed in your scoring that you didn't actually earn any points at all no matter how many times you hit your opponent until the opponent began firing back.

Very interesting...   :hmmmm:

We seem to be pretty close to figuring out the credit payout after last night. You will be awarded credits equal to your point total for all three rounds. There is a 100 credit bonus that appears to go to every member of the team (alliance or pirates) with the highest cumulative score.  :trophy:

Ok, I have a theory...VFK is based 'educational game'....

VFK monitors when our little avatar brains figure it out...then *poof* they will change the math formula just to keep us in the 'educational mode' for math in this game....  :notme:

But really, Pink and Pete - you're probably right with the 'hits' -- I'm sure they didn't want people getting rich with credits from using their own 'sitting duck clones' (not to be confused with PurpleDuck  :bighug: )

Wow....this IS confusing. :??:

Flamanar...gets out his abacus... :hmmmm:
Flame...abacus??
I mean what year did I last hear that word ever used...oops, nvm I'm older than you   :-X  :lolg:  :bighug:

Well, I am at least one step ahead (or would that be behind)
I actually still have my slide rule!

Of course we're right!  Are we ever wrong?  ;)

We also discovered that if you're all playing on the same team you all get the 100 credit bonus at the end of the round.

Pink and I did have one game were we both inexplicably got 50 credits (total) at the end of the game (playing on different sides) I'm not sure what caused that. Just be aware there may be some exceptions to the way the bonus credits are awarded.

Maybe there was a tie???    :??:

Like Krazy said, if you're just playing 2 people or even 3 people (gosh, Dream & Krazy! Why didn't we do this last night when we were playing!!), make sure you're all on same team and just play every man for himself.  That way all of you get the 100 bonus at end!  Pretty sneaky!  LOL!   :P
