Title: Kingdom Keepers Online?
Post by: verenice on February 20, 2010, 10:42 AM
Has anyone heard of this game?  From what little I could find it is based on a series of books which take place in the Disney Parks.  It is supposed to become an MMO soon, and Beta sign-up's opened today.  Here is a link to the sign up http://spreadsheets.google.com/embeddedform?formkey=dEZvekNSMnlNOHkwQjJEX21qd0ZNaEE6MA (http://spreadsheets.google.com/embeddedform?formkey=dEZvekNSMnlNOHkwQjJEX21qd0ZNaEE6MA)  (I'm not sure if I should include the link, If not, mods please feel free to take it down.)

I'm not sure what to make of it.....

I have heard of it, but didn't know it was ready.

(btw, this is the section of noBS that is for other games, so no problem with providing the link)   ;)

Oh wow! TY for the link! princessmadiro has been waiting for this. Ridley (author of the books and former VMK player) actually tweeted princess back in the fall about this coming out around March/April.  :2thunbs:

We've read the first book  - love this series! I knew there were plans for an online game/community, didn't think it would be so soon. He was a big supporter of VMK and I believe tried to do what he could to lobby for it to remain open. We might have to sign on for this, just to see what it is like... :hmmmm:

Ty for the info!  I also signed up today.  It will be interesting to see what it's like.  No high expectations here, but I hope it will have some Disney elements that most other games can't have.  I have the first KK book and it is a cute fast read.  I tend to like most things Disney though. :)

I signed up too.  I find it interesting that they will "choose" who they want to do Beta testing.  :hmmmm:

I signed up. I agree with PD, it will be interesting to see who gets "chosen" to participate in their Beta testing.

I just signed up as well, and I do really hope we all get chosen to test beta, as everyone here would be a good choice. Good luck everyone.....Fluffy hugs from Fee

You all ROCK. I hope I'm one of the 200 selected! I'm pretty confident Disney will be offering those of us who aren't chosen in this round a sneak peek later in March, BEFORE THE PUBLIC GETS TO PLAY!! So, thanks again for your entries. And keep coming back to the blog for updates.
If I get a chance to play, I'll tell you what it's like!

On thinking about this, I think that is okay. I think it is okay that they are going to deal with a number they can actually manage. Which means they will need those beta testers to actually test and feedback, not just be logged on and play. I suspect they will be looking for more in their target audience (books are "thrillers for young readers"), since they did take age and gender info. and familarity with books. But maybe they'll also want some cross-section of demographics, which would give me a chance.

No e-mails for any of us - maybe that is a blessing in disguise for now. We have barely been able to keep up in VFK lately. We will be interested in knowing what the gameplay is like - I have read a few blurbs about battling, etc. Hope some of you got in - especially PrincessMadiro!  :bighug:

emails.... have begun

For those who didn't believe... the emails have now STARTED GOING OUT... don't be disappointed, the rest of you. There are still KK recruits needed to battle the OTs. It isn't over. And, it's only 2 weeks once the beta begins... More cool, for those who miss the Beta team -- ALL SORTS OF EXTRA play is being added AFTER the Beta round (which is going to be limited play). SO HANG IN THERE. It only gets better from now on...
Here we go...

Apparently testers aren't really allowed to discuss the game.  :notme:

princessmadiro didn't get in- I'm kind of glad too.
I don't think this will be her kind of game anyway.
She'll probably try it out when it opens up but I don't see her sticking around.
Kind of disappointed for her but we must keep the faith and hope her dream game comes back some how some day.  :pm:

I just got the invite too!  Says I am tester 097  (wonder if that is of the original 100 they chose, or they are just allowing more to join?)

A friend got to test a few days ago, and submitted her comments about the game.  This is the reply she got from KK.

Hi everybody, thanks for your feedback.

Just to clear up any confusion, Kingdom Keepers Online is not an MMO. It's an action/strategy game with a collaborative, massively mulitplayer twist. We know that a lot of you were hoping for a VMK style social game with avatars and chat, and KKO is definitely not trying to fill that role. Instead, we want to create an action game where thousands of players work together to defeat the Overtakers. For VMK fans longing for more of a chat-based, social, "hang out" experience, we feel your pain! We hope that you will enjoy the more action-based gameplay of KKO and get into the collaborative aspect of working together as a team to beat the Overtakers. We also want this game to reach gamers who don't know about the Keepers yet and draw them into the amazing world that Ridley created.

Thanks for helping us beta test, your feedback is appreciated....

/frank

I saw this myself as I got  through two levels.  The look is all dark, and because there are only 5 characters from which to pick, you could wind up with a LOT of the same avatar and not be able to keep track of which is you (in their goal to  have many come together to get rid of the Overtakers).  It really reminds me of several really archaic games - the look, the play.  Almost a Pac Man look to it.

But then, it was only two levels I played.  I may try a couple more to see if anything significantly changes.

I got my acceptance email last night to be a Beta Tester for Kingdom Keepers, but it was too late for me to log-in and try it out. I am looking forward to playing it some this weekend, and then posting my comments. I was really surprised to be accepted................Fee

I got in believe it or not Since I am Canadian. I was honest and filled out the form properly and for state I put Canada. Well they took me. Though I did post on the authors web page and asked why? I too got tester 097 must be a code lol.

Yes it is more like an old arcade game. The concept is great but I wish it was not so dark. Had some story behind it. Do not really get it. I have gone back a few times.

Really not a game for me. With the great graphics on the web I think they really need to make it more graphically pleasing to be a success. Maybe this is really an Alpha test like when VFK started and we will see improvements in the future. Time will tell.

We got E-Mails yesterday. Definitely not my type of game. Pretty much just a lot of shooting. I cleared an easy node, died on the second and quit.  :lolg: It reminded me more of a mini-game that would be inside of another game - if that makes sense?

I think a lot of the kids were hoping for a VMK type of game and it is not anything like that. (And according to purpleduck's find it will not be) I was just curious to give it a try since the books are such a fun read.

I finally got around to playing it and I have to agree that it is not a game I would play. There really isn't much to it besides shooting.  :hmmmm:

Maybe they will make changes...
