I found this article interesting:
Conference Wrap-Up - Virtual Worlds 2007: The Future Of Gaming? (http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20070423/chen_01.shtml)
If you only want to read the VMK part, it is page 4.
Edited to fix link formatting

Excellent Article!!
But, how SAD is this:
:what:
quote ... "Our senior brand leaders at Disney allowed us to be "market" vs. "marketing" driven - and really let us build the world for our targeted audience. Tweens told us they didn't want the "Fab 5" (Mickey, Minnie, etc.) characters in VMK, so they aren't there; they told us "no parades", so there are none."
Didn't want the Fab 5 or parades?????
Who doesn't like parades???
AND all I can say is : OMG I wouldn't pay $1000 for REAL shoes (and I LOVE shoes)
( quote.... "These items can be gotten in-world, but the most valuable items are from outside VMK. One pair of virtual green flip-flops eventually sold on eBay for $1020. Through various quests, the activities on VMK integrate with those in the theme parks."

Some people really need to "Get a Life".

The bigger question in my mind is.. who is this "kid" that could buy those flips on Ebay, and how do I get in touch with them?! Inquirying (poor) ducks want to know! :D
