Okay this is very strange, but that is why I'm posting about it. Hmmm maybe I do need to get some sleep. :lolg:
I was talking to another friend in VFK tonight. They were trying to ask me if I had played Elf Island yet. However, whatever they were typing, was not appearing at all in chat bubbles. The only chat bubble that I did see was a separate chat bubble from them saying "are you playing?" I said "playing what?"
So when I wasn't answering, they were saying "Astro read up." But there wasn't anything to read.. no chat bubbles, nothing. I figured out what they were trying to ask me, as this is the only new game that has really opened up that people are talking about.
So I tried typing "Elf"... I could see my chat bubbles with the words Elf on my screen, but my friend couldn't see it on their screen. On their screen there was nothing. Just like what I had seen earlier.
VFK has obviously put some kind of a filter on anything that we type with regards to "Elf".
Strange huh?
Thought I would share.
For the record, no staff came to talk to us, and I didn't get any in game messages or pop-ups either. And "elf" was not dictionary danced, nor did it appear red when when typing it.

Yep, King and I had a good laugh about this late the other night. King did dance "eh.ill.if" and we were totally cracking up by this point. This goes for the word elf by itself and island also. You also cannot say the phrase "Small Worlds".
We were on the phone with them the next day dealing with that family member issue and King did chuckle and they spoke about it a bit. Apparently, there was talk going on regarding other sites. I think Small Worlds was the big concern initially because they were very concerned that it was being discussed in front of kids and it really is not a kid-friendly game. They did not want kids to think it was ok because it was allowed to be discussed on VFK. Talking about EI is clearly a clever move of self preservation with the newest competition on the block. The fact that it does not show up red and you can see your own chat is sort of funny and pretty creative. :lolg: We were able to figure it out only because we were in the same room late doing a quick trade and we could see each others screens. I honestly forgot all about it until I saw this Astro.
So, you are not crazy. :crazy2: Well, at least not in regards to this. :lolg:

This is hilarious :laugh2: Wonder what my signature will show when I sign in. For months it has simple stated "Everybody wants to be an elf" I wonder if it is still there ROFL Guess they are getting worried. ( by the way it is play on the song from Aristocats- Everybody wants to be a cat )

I was not aware VFK has done this with Small Worlds too. We USED to be able to say that, apparently not anymore, I haven't tried in awhile. :laugh2:
I mean seriously, we all know we are not supposed to discuss other sites in game. But, let's face it - we all do it at some point. I am totally guilty of that. Furthermore, I am also talking with other adult friends, whom I speak with outside of VFK ~ so there is no concern for me there. But, to VFK of course there is, and it just comes down to the point of being "lazy" and talking in game about other sites, real life, etc., instead of talking outside of VFK. I have gotten a warning before, and I realize they are only trying to keep the game safe for kids.
If I hadn't gone to outside IM with my friend at that moment, I probably wouldn't have figured out so quickly what VFK was actually doing with regards to the Elf Island in game chat. ;) Because I don't think screen shots really do any justice with this type of move on VFK's part. It is simply hysterical to see. :rofl1: I give VFK credit for thinking up this move, clearly they are feeling threatened by the competition.
I'm sure the staff at VFK is laughing :lolp: at us all in hysterics when we go to type phrases with Elf Island or Small Worlds, and we see it on our screen, not in red and in chat bubbles ~ but all of our friends are like huh?? :??:

Oh yes, forgot to mention, sometimes the entire sentence will not show up for the "listening" person.... ie,
was fun to see with 2 screens up:
"what land will come next?" did not show anything in sentence on the screen for Listeners
"what lands will come next?" did show entire sentence
"elves" or "elves is here" did show

"elves is.lands" and "elves is lands" did not show either

Well, everyone might want to be careful in "testing" what can be said. When we saw Astro's post this morning, King and I hopped on to see exactly what could be said and what could not. I was just putting in phrases, including second life, which did show up in chat. We went on to get a little sleep and I planned on hopping on this afternoon to suggest they add the phrase "second life" to the list of phrases filtered out. When I hopped in game this evening, there was a warning message about third party sites. I did commend them for monitoring what was being said in game so well, even at 5am - and let them know that "second life" should be a no-no phrase also.
Just don't want anyone having any problems because we are all testing the chat. Here is a pic of the warning. (yes, you know I had to add a picture :lolg: )

Aww, hugs everybody! :bighug: I don't think anyone is going to get banned for testing words, I think this is probably a new automatic message that is being sent if they catch a phrase come up in chat. I mean, I did say "second life" which I'm sure popped up on their radar immediately. :rofl1: We actually got a good chuckle over it here - so no worries. I did make the "third party" issue into a sticky for now, because it is not really listed anywhere in the VFK Constitution.
OK, so now that this is over, any bridges out there we can block? :rofl1:
