Title: Group Room Connection for NoBS
Post by: funfly on February 06, 2010, 09:27 AM
Edit: I have the room of SittingDuck's set up for us:  I will try to keep a 'key' alphabetically to the rooms up here in top post.

titles:    -  porters with item

funfly   -    toy airplane

Goldengourd - golden doughnut   (I had to click lower right corner of Gold's porter in her room to return to main hub)

Goldengourd's AIR Hockey Room - has a valentine card by this porter

krazy-kim is krazy -  white fox  (I think porter is not in place at Krazy's yet)

PurpleDuck - duck sitting on purple egg

Red Delicous/Mystery Red - red nutcracker

Tigerbella   -  tiger topiary

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

below is original post:

I enjoy building some simple rooms - however, they get lost on lists so I like to connect them to a main Connection Room.

I thought the new Football Field would be good to start because it's large; but I also noticed the Snowy Hillside room would be great as well because it's large and items look smaller in it. (Edit: Just realized that the Snowy Hillside room has a little more lag though for some reason)

I can place a porter to go to each "section of room types"

Snowy Hillside connects different porters to "Seashore Room Connection"; "Srping Hideaway Connection", etc

Then "Seashore Room Connection" connects to individual built rooms such as "Cottage on the Beach"; and "surf's up" or whatever you title your room..

Anyone else have ideas on how they connect their rooms to locate easier?

You are well organized, Fun.  I don't connect rooms (unless it's a ride room).  I just let them fall at the bottom of my room list when I buy them.  I do list important rooms by capitalizing their titles so that they're easier to find...of course that sounds nice...until yer over 100 rooms in yer list.... :sur:  What would be nice is if we could move the rooms around on our list to where we want them.  That way we could move important rooms to the top of the list.

I also don't connect rooms because there are some top-secret rooms I don't want people to see.  There have been times when I was able to warp to someone elses room just after they had left...and was treated to a very nice tour of their properties.  LOL.  I'm not sure I want that with my rooms.  But I'm wonky, so there it is.  :notme:

Thanks, I guess I am somewhat organized in very few things in VFK :lolg:  Like you flame, I put some in all caps but not many...and usually it's like this "Fun's Victorian Front Yard -EXITS TO VICTORIAN HOUSE" so I know where I can walk out of my room into a public room area for quests.

My items are organized thanks to Red!  :bighug:

I connect rooms so that I can find what I did as "built rooms" and don't mind if someone (friend or stranger) follows there and gets a freebie tour. I've got nothing to hide in those rooms because there is nothing in them for "trades" as I pretty much want them to stay as is. I usually keep these open to Everyone as  I remember having great fun touring various stranger's rooms in VMK - there were/are some great builders out there. I figured if I enjoyed touring strangers rooms then there might be others who enjoy seeing random rooms too.  In fact, I think our NoBS Halloween rooms that are connected is connected into this entire "built rooms" thing I have going.  It's always being updated as I get rooms done.  Although I think I need a map anyway  :rofl1:

Like you said for your top-secret rooms where you might hide items...well, those rooms or storage rooms I don't connect to any of the others that are "built rooms"  But, I don't see a reason to hide things anyway; they're just pixels. But hiding messy  :shy: storage rooms is a must!

Ah!!!  Flame is never messy...nor does he ever tell a fib!   :shy:  Most of my rooms are storage or bare, unfortunately.  Very boring for a house tour type of thing.  I do have my ride rooms connected, so people can ride...but I don't have anything connecting the rides to my main room.  Actually...I don't even HAVE a main room come to think of it!  ROFL.  -note to self:  build a 'main room'-  :lolp:

I have had experiences in the past with people seeing something in a connected room of mine and getting jealous.  That upset me so much that I disconnected most of my rooms and also locked them.  Now if I'm in a locked room, it's probably because I'm putting something away or getting something out.  It's sad that people can become so jealous about pixels.  I mean, really.  Now I'm fairly tight-lipped about my 'virtual possessions'.  It's sad to have to be that way...but I don't want to risk another 'incident'.  Sigh...

I know some people have all their rooms connected from beginning to end.  Wow...that's aLOT of teleporters.  LOL.  I'm not sure I have enough to cover my rooms.  Again, most are storage or empty.  Very few 'built rooms'.  Not much of interest, really.  I should probably connect my built rooms...if I can find them again ;)

(hugs)

Flamanar...you know it's bad when you can't find your login room... :roflmao:

Flame,

Go build man, go build!  :bighug:

I shall I shall!  Unfortunately, I have to do my *^%@ taxes and check my and .its credit reports (I do it once a year).  Blech?  Very blech!  I will get to building........................................................soon.  :)

ok if you can not show them what is the point of even working to get them. It is sad that people can take a rangy over pixels. I learned my lesson from VMK. Never ever get attached to a game and it items ever ever again.

I feel so bad you can not show your prize items.  Kinda takes the fun out of the game :(

That is true Belle, but I do enjoy building there in some of my spare time. I don't spend hours building a room, most are very simple. Hopefully if I stay put in a room or leave a clone some people could visit it if they wanted to. If they don't, then I've had fun building anyway.  I do understand how it takes the fun out of the game too if people cannot enter and enjoy what you've built as well.

I really like this idea Fun!  :thumb: I like the idea of connecting similar themed rooms together. I would love for people to get to see more of the creations I have worked on, but I am not able to be in many rooms at once. This would be a great solution!

One thing I am patiently (or semi-patiently) waiting for is to be able to see room descriptions when the room owner is not present. I would love to have that. It would help in making player created games or when "touring".

Flame, phooey if someone cannot get past something in game that you earned. That is their issue - you should feel free to let people see your creativity and the things that are special to you in game. I do understand how this can feel and I know sometimes it is easier on your own feelings just to say "forget it". Just know your true friends will be happy for you with things you have accomplished in game and out! I know many of us here would love to see more rooms you all have built!  :thumb:

I wanted to connect some friend's rooms (from friend's here) with my own room that had a holiday feel to them, but right now I am trying to build up some credits so I can find someone who will sell me a messageboard (with the drawers) before I do anything else.  Its kind of hard right now because we have Valentines Day stuff and Football stuff to get, but if I do this would other people be interested in making or adding already made holiday rooms to my room?  I don't mind what holiday you make, but I won't want a run on one holiday and not include the other holidays.  Its just a running idea I had for awhile now, but can't find a messageboard at the moment so I am not sure how long it will take before I even complete my idea.  With all the stuff they put in the stores I might not be able to buy it anyway so its just a thought I have been working on.

Neat idea Krazy!

In VMK there was a group of friends who did this so we could visit each other's rooms. Does anyone think there would be any problems with VFK with this?

I don't mind connecting rooms of mine to others.  I also like building them for others to enjoy.  And, as for them begging for stuff, too bad.  I don't mind say NO! lol  Must be the mother in me. ;)
I know we had the long run of rooms on vmk connected by the river ride, but I know I don't want all of mine to be rides.  It's just too much of a pain here building rides. lol I do have a couple of rides, the ones from the spring ride and now my Valentine's room is connected to my pastry shop.  (Don't all good rides in a shop? ;) )
Of course some of my rooms are so stuffed so I'm not sure where those teleporters will go...lol

Ok, in case anyone is interested I have the following idea:

I have a spare with an empty room that I will put porters in. This spare has no friends except me, is rarely on; but I would leave this room open to everyone so NoBS could come and go from their porters.

Anyone here that has a room that wants to be added I will do so.
This way we can tour and enjoy each other's rooms that were built.
You can add either a single room - OR - a Main Hub room of your own.

I am adding a porter here that connects to funfly's Main Hub room (which my Main Hub has porters to connect to mini-hubs of rooms (or other as some just loop) from that by theme/idea)

If anyone here wishes to connect their room or Hub of Rooms let me know and I'll add it to the spare's room.

No problem Pix....I'll have my peeps contact your peeps and meet for porter exchange and set up  :lolg:

SittingDuck's room will be the "designated NoBS Room" for anyone who wishes to connect.  (now 'the duck is out of the bag' - I made the SittingDuck clone)  :lolg:

I can take them anytime now - I have a room ready; we have porters now to Red's, Goldengourd, Krazy Kim's (or her mom's - wherever Krazy is going to place it for now)  :lolg: ; and mine. I'm sure some of us are still working on our own rooms as well - probably I'll never be completely done  connecting my rooms :lolg:

I've updated the first post to try to keep a "key" for those joined with list showing each persons porter by an item.  If you prefer a certain  item to represent you let me know.  If I have an extra to use then I'll do that, if not we'll find something else.  All I ask is that these small Items placed by porters need to be non-moving/non-blinking so as to not cause lag for others wishing to visit; thanks.

Well I suppose a tiger would represent me best, so let me know if you need a tiger topiary or something like that. lol! Of course that does take up a chunk of space....rofl!

Considering your title we'll squeeze that tiger in there. If you could supply the tiger that would be helpful also.

Thanks Golden!

Great idea with the Valentine card, Fun! :thumb: I actually sent in a suggestion to VFK to keep birthday cards and just blank all occasion cards in the Gift Shop year round. I thought we could send them to ourselves to create instructions for in-room games or even room descriptions for ride rooms. (since those descriptions do not show up unless you are in the room. Sort of like folks used photographs for things like that on VMK.  :dance2:

Fun,
This is so sweet of you to do! I love the duck sitting on the purple egg! What a great idea! :thumb: Once the garden competition is over, I am going to try to connect some of my built rooms and add a porter to this hub. Then I am actually going to finish the rainbow connection video I started last year. Where does the time go?

Anyone interested in still connecting to our Group Room Connection for NoBSers let me know and we'll meet up to swap a porter to add to the Group Hub Room.

We can either add a porter to our own sand castle rooms to our own main hubs
 - or -
I can connect another Mini Main Hub (off of the main Group Room Hub for us all) just for our Sand Castle Rooms if anyone wants.
