Title: papaduck's vintage dragster
Post by: papaduck on May 03, 2011, 08:07 PM
Well, I said I'd put up some pictures of our build so here it is at this state of it's progress.

The car is being built to rules that create construction of a car more like those built in the 1950s when drag racing was in it's beginnings an the cars were home built rather than the modern style cars. As such the chassis started out as a set of Model-T Ford frame rails, (1917 to 1925 vintage...true age unknown). The front axle is early 1940s Lincoln Zephyr with 1929 Ford Model-A wheels. Rear axle is early 1960s Ford Mustang. Engine and transmission came from a 1934 Dodge and the body is a fiberglass reproduction 1923 Ford Model-T.

1st shot is the beginning "pile of parts:

2nd shot shows the body in place:

3rd shot includes the papaduck: :lolg:

If anyone is interested I can post a copy of the class rules we are building to.

The finished car will resemble a late '50s early 60's Gas Modified Roadster.

Got the rest of the roll cage bent and tack welded in place today...starting to look more like a race car now. :thumb:

Wish I could be posting some real progress on the car worthy of pictures, but life and other stuff have been getting in the way. That said, I got to drive my buddy's car in May and here are a couple of videos from those races. I won the first race and lost the second, but win or lose these things are just pure fun. Crank up the sound and enjoy the ride!

This last Video is another car I got to drive a year back, two 350 Chevy V8s mounted side by side. I'm still grinning from that ride. A once in a lifetime experience.
