I did!  I got it just before I left for vacation last week.   It's a bit different than what I expected, but I really like it so far. Certain things about it remind me of SL.  I'd really like to see more of Jack Sparrow though.  That little teaser at the beginning just wasn't enough for me  ;)

It is the Pirates of the Caribbean online game that will go live sometime this Spring.  Here is the link where you can sign up to be a beta tester, although from what I hear, it is very random as to who gets chosen.  http://apps.pirates.go.com/pirates  I applied last year for it as did many other friends of mine, yet very few were chosen  :(  It will have a monthly or annual fee to play once it goes live, I'm not sure which.  Check out the site.  There are many pictures of the game and it really is quite addicting already!  I've already warned the husband to get ready to start paying.

From what I understand it will be available free to everyone.  I am thinking they will do what many other online worlds have done and let anyone have a free account, then offer a premium (paid) membership as well.  Lori had posted a link on Dis some time back to a press release where Paul Yanover announced it would be available free.  As far as the beta testers go I'm guessing they continue to add as time goes on?  If anyone hasn't signed up yet, I don't think its too late.

Are you having any major problems with it?  Up until Wednesday morning, I was able to enter the buildings without a problem.  Now when I enter, I just get a black screen.  I've sent them messages about it, but have not heard back other than a computer generated email.

For whatever reason, I got a second beta key, which worked out well because SillyQueen had not gotten one yet.  I can't wait to find you there finally Queen!

After the massive game update on Friday, they deleted all the old avatars and we all have to start back at the beginning again.  Some things are a bit different now, like the ad banners at the top of the online game screen.  I find them to be very distracting.  I'm wondering if they'll still be there when the game goes live  :-\

I'm not sure how many of you play POTCO, but the Beta testers received this email a week or so ago.

Quote from: POTCO Email
As many of you know, we have been in Phase 1 of Beta testing for a few months and have received some great feedback and data to assist us as we continue the process of developing Pirates of the Caribbean Online. We really appreciate all the interest you've shown in the game and your willingness to be involved.

Our end goal is simple -- make a great game! In order to achieve this, we believe we need some additional development time and have decided to move the launch of the game to this Fall. This gives us some extra time to further enhance the game, respond to additional data we've collected during Beta testing, and incorporate more of the input we have received from you, our players.

As part of this process, we will conclude Phase 1 of Beta testing at noon (PDT) on July 16 and plan to resume Phase 2 of the Beta test with a new game build in September. Please note: As a Beta tester from Phase 1, you will automatically have access to Phase 2 -- there is no need to sign up again.

In the meantime, we have some exciting things coming your way -- including a brand-new Web site, community contests, more updates from the development team, and tons of updated game assets. You can continue to get all of this information and more at: piratesonline.com.

Since the beta phase 1 is ending tomorrow at noon, a very large group of VMK'ers are partying it up there tonight, starting at 8:00pm EST at Padres Del Fuego, 6th sea, at the dock if anyone would like to meet up there!  I'll be missing POTCO a bit too much :psad:

I hope phase 2 will have the mac version, because it's a pain in the butt to use the PC we have... it's super slow.. it takes like an hour to load up from sleep mode  :cpuhurl:... i would definitely play it more if they had the mac version, though with school around the corner, i know what to play when i have study groups at the computer lab :pnotme:... just kidding

Well I have been plugging away at it. I think I am level 5... I have some questions..

How do you use voodoo?

How can you get more training for other skills in Sword fighting and shooting?

Is there a map of places you have been or do I need to make one?

How do you board another ship to plunder it?

That's it for now  :hisign:

You get the Voodoo quest at notoriety level 5 from Tia.  Once you have your voodoo doll, you click your screen to attune the doll to your target.  You must be close to the target to do this.  Then you use your skills at the bottom of your screen to cast your hexes.  You start out with only the "poke" skill, but obtain more skills as your voodoo level increases.

To get more skills for cutlass, pistol or any other weapon, you must level up your weapon to obtain new skills.  At each new level, you are given skill points.  Go to your "K" button to view your skills.  If you have a skill point to assign, you just click on the skill that you want to assign it to.  If it is a new skill, it won't be highlighted until you assign a skill point to it.

The only map available is to click your "M".  As you're questing, you have to hop around a lot so you need to get the teleportation totems for each island.  You get the quest for these by achieving various notoriety levels.

You don't always have to board a ship to plunder it.  If the ship has a flag by it's name, then it is a ship that you must board and fight to the death.  To do this, you first have to cripple the ship by shooting it and taking it's health meter down to 0.  Then you get along side it, shoot some grapple hooks to the ship into the green circles, and the captain of the ship decides when the crew boards.  Once on board, you fight the guards on board until they are dead then you are brought back to your ship and you are given the cargo.  It's really more difficult to go after the flagships as the guard levels on board are typically high.  The easiest way to bring in plunder is just to go after the lower level ships and sink them with your crew cannons and the captain's broadside cannons.

Hope that helps!  I'd be happy to meet up with you in the game and can help you with anything else you need.

grappling hooks... I can not for the life of me figure out how to board a navy or EITC ship! Do I need more than just myself onboard my vessel...

I line up right beside the darn thing and all I can do it blow it to bits  :hippie: I want to get on one of those suckers!!!! I NEED TO PLUNDER!!!!

Also a couple of questions on a few more things Next to the Moonraker Navigator bars where my health is, there is a ship, I can move that ship, but for the life of me I can't figure out why I would want to move that ship icon... There are also 3 circles, one for cargo, one for shipmates and a third which seems like some sort of clock... or timer.. it's counting down from 47 minutes if that means anything.

Also once I have a Navy ship engaged there seems to be a timer associcated with that... What are the Timer's purpose...

Thanks (can you tell I am taking a break from packing and dealing with sick kids??)

Oh and is there a proper way to log out?

Oh and is there a proper way to log out?

You can grapple over to a ship by yourself, but it would be really hard.  I'd recommend having a crew with you of at least 1.  To grapple, you have to shoot your grappling hooks to the ship first.  When you're manning your cannon, at the bottom of your screen, you'll see a grapple button.  Push that to enable the grappling hook, then shoot it at the green circles that are on the enemy ship.  To get plunder though, you don't always have to grapple.  You only have to grapple to ships with a flag over them.  If you just sink the ships without the flag, you get cargo and when you dock your ship, you get the gold.

The timer is how long you can be at sea before you need to dock.  A timer on an enemy ship would be how long you have to grapple and defeat the enemy soldiers on board.

As for moving that ship icon, I've never noticed that you could!  I'll have to check that out!

There is a proper way to log out, but it still does the error report thing even if you use it.  I forget the button, but it's on the far right where you see your J, I, U, etc.  It's the top one.  Push that, then you'll get a screen where you can make audio changes and other things like that, and there is a logout button.

I'll be on tonight if you'd like to meet up and get on each other's friend list.  I'd be glad to help in anyway!  This game definitely relies on teamwork.  PM me if you want to meet!

I hope you're having a great time on your cruise!  :yes!:

To change worlds on POTCO, go to your map (M button).  You will see a gold kind of crescent shape thing at the top of your map under the name of your current world.  Click that and it will give you a list of all of the different worlds.  Then you just click on the world you want and you are sent there.

It's like using advanced mode on VMK.  Since I usually just use the "go to" to get to my friends, I typically don't worry or even know what world I'm in.  But, if I'm going sailing, I do switch to a "quiet" world instead of an "ideal" world so that there are less people and the lag isn't as bad.

I'm back!! Great cruise despite the rain... Rained in Key West, Rained in Grand Cayman AND Rained in Cozumel!! Thank goodness it was a picture perfect day on Castaway  Cay!! Still, a great cruise two thumbs up!!

I played a bit last night... Found everything I needed for Tia and my Doll... Now I am after BLOOD!!! Muahaha!!!

Today is orange crate day for me (I am so behind), but I hope to sneek in some POTC time in too!

Had a funny bugs last night... Anytime I left the swampy area on Cuba I was tossed into the water with no way out... swam around the WHOLE ISLAND tring to get back on... ended up teleporting back to Port Royal the first time, and logging out the second time THEN>>>>> CUBA disapeared! I saw the island, but not the Name, and when I approached it in my boat... I could sail all over the island.. IN THE island ON the Island... but I could not get OFF my boat. I logged off and back on and it fixed it.

Ok time to get kids off to school... for some reason they dont want to wake up today  :D

I pay for the game.  They had switched me to basic access (the free access) during Beta for 2 days and it was miserable.  You can't do much in the free version of the game.  The first month is $4.95 and then it is $9.95 per month.

As far as I know, yes you will maintain the prior access you had on the test server.  That is, unless the developers decide to have us all "test" basic access again

That sounds like something vmk would do.... Maybe the Pirate people are different.
I didn't get to play the game at all during beta 2, with school, and it kept crashing every time I load it. how could I? I started playing pirates again like two weeks ago, I have come to really liking it again. Though supposedly it's funny to watch me play specially, when I start cursing the game off, my next door neighbor always passes by my room when I get mad I died or something like that. She stand at the doorway and starts laughing. Now, I am being forced to play toontown, and I was like great another game addiction I need. Why is disney's online games so fascinating, that people get game addiction from it? -_-
