Traditionally, my grandmother does a regular turkey in the oven, while my father smokes one and fries one (the fried one is delicious, I totally want his recipe).

Sorry but that sounded so funny to me.

:rofl1: :rofl1: OK this made me LOL!

Gas,
The 5 kinds of tea she made were - regular unsweetened, regular sweetened with sugar, regular sweetened with sweet-n-low, decaf sweetened with sugar, and decaf sweetened with sweet-n-low.  What always drove me crazy was that she refused to just make regular and decaf unsweetened and let everyone sweeten it how they wanted, she had to cover all the bases so anyone could pour their tea and be done with it.  God love her, she just wants everyone to have what they like and not be inconvenienced.

This thread is worthless without recipes, so start posting them starting with these.

5 kinds of ice tea
homemade stuffing
whipped cream for pies (the real stuff as Mom says, no can/frozen kind)

And to start this off I will post my mom's and grandma's cranberry salad recipe. I hate cranberries but I love this stuff.

CRANBERRY SALAD

1 Orange
1 can or bag of Cranberries
½ c. Pecans
1 ½ Cups sugar
2 small pkgs Jello Cherry or Strawberry
Mix Jello with 1 ½ Cups of water per box
 I use Cherry Jello

Grind all of these:

1 Orange  (Grind all even the peel)
1 can or bag of Cranberries
½ c. Pecans

then add:

1 ½ Cups sugar
2 small pkgs Jello Cherry or Strawberry(we use cherry Jello)
Mix Jello with 1 ½ Cups of water per box

Than put in fridge and let get firm and cold

Well I just made this Jello Cranberry Salad, and I just have to say that I would have drank it all up right now.  It smells so good and I can't wait to eat it tomorrow.  Thanks for the recipe Gas.  :thumb:

But as for our menu tomorrow we are going to be having a feast.  My Mom always gets the biggest turkey at the store, and this year she got a 19 lb. turkey.  She told me if there was a bigger one she would have gotten it. haha!   Side orders will be Stuffing, Mac & Cheese, Broccoli & Cheese, Zucchini Pie, Mashed Potatoes, Corn, Green Bean Casserole, and Cresent Rolls.   Don't think I missed anything. :hmmmm:

Was I supposed to be cooking?   :sos:

Our meal is the standard garden salad, turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, carrots, corn, broccoli, peas, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, pickles & olives and kielbasa.

I bring some of the deserts.  This year I made regular brownies, zebra (cream cheese) brownies, 7 layer bars, sugar cookies and toll house chocolate chip cookies.  Mom will have baklava (my favorite), rice krispie bars, apple pie, krustiki (my brother's favorite), some type of a cake and other assorted goodies.

Yes, it is a feast.

How do you mess up jell-O?  :rofl1:

Mom said I left out part, she said you cut out the piece that the orange was attached to the tree, and also the middle section of the orange, the inner skin thing.

But that would not have made it not jell.

Try making it again, so you can have it at Xmas.

If "Jell-O" doesn't jell, is it just "O"?

LOL!  I'm the type of person to mess up the simplest of foods to make.   2 years ago on Thanksgiving, I was making instant mashed potatoes and they turned out like soup.  haha   So the Jell-O was no surprise that I messed it up.  :laugh2:

So I will try and make it again for Christmas. :)

I made Thanksgiving dinner -- everything was going as planned, except the turkey took a half hour longer....and when I was moving the pan to get ready to make the gravy,......OOPS!  The pan fell into the sink and dumped all the juices from the pan. (better than going on the floor I suppose)   So this was a Thanksgiving with NO gravy as I forgot to even buy canned stuff for backup.  They promised they will never forget the Thanksgiving dinner without gravy.... :rofl1:

Good idea with Christmas jello too - **planning cranberry jello for Christmas dinner with ham - no gravy needed**

Are you sure you're from Kentucky?  That might be considered treason there you know.   :lolg:

And now for something completely different... Gas, have you lived in Ky. all your life?  Are you by any chance a Ky. Colonel?

Mom said you might have put in too much water because you were looking at the jell-o boxes instead of this recipe. Jell-o takes 2 cups of water per box and this recipe calls for only 1 1/2 cups per box.
