I'll buck the trend here and say that I don't really have problem with "storm troopers" carrying around laser guns. I think a laser tag game sounds pretty cool. And while I don't want to see VFK turn into GTA, you can take the "non-violent" approach too far as well. I played with GI Joe when I was a kid and I've never owned a real gun. I don't think a little laser battle in VFK is really going to hurt anyone.

Just my opinion  :ls:

I'll stand with KrazyPete on this, I too have no problem with it in general.  If you look at the other games that have some type of gun hamlessly present in their game and get a free pass and look at the more violent games with guns - on the face of it this does not seem like an issue here.

They are Perhaps a little out of place and against statements they have made in the past but not an issue.  It's not like it would be the first time they did something different then they had said and we always knew space pirtates were coming and space age but had no idea what that would be. If we are lucky the storm troopers successfully round up the horses, everyone knows thats how they did it in the old west.

I think everyone is is entitled to their opinion, however there have been massive amounts of "legitimate" studies which show that video games do not promote violence, and if anything actually lower it.   Everyone has thier advocacy groups who come up with stats however there was a multi year study done at Harvard, yes the Harvard, which actually put to rest a lot of the complaints.   Actually going as far with providing the statistics that as video game sales have risen since 1993, the amount of violence amongst youths is actually declining.  In all actuality anyone who uses video games as an excuse is doing just that, coming up with an excuse.    I am always of the mindset that parenting is the core of instilling the right values into your childrens mind, and using video games or what is shown in movies is just a cop out.

As an example...as a child I had, water guns, cap guns, BB guns, played laser tag, played video games with guns, even went hunting with my dad.   20 years later I don't own a gun, I don't want one in my house, or have a remote thought of violence in my mind.    I am sure there are tons of people out there with similar backgrounds and similar results, so all those theories are just excuses and nothing more.

I am sure many feel differently than I do, but I just get fed up with how people are so quick in society to blame things today rather than taking responsibility.   (Note: comments are not directed to anyone here, just my rant on the softening of society)

Personally I feel that aside from marraige and drivers licenses there should be parenting licenses put in place as well.

This all reminds me of something funny Chris Rock once said....we don't need gun control, we need Ammo Control.   It isn't the gun that is the problem.   If it cost someone $10000 for one bullet, they would sure make sure who they were going to shoot was worth it.

Ok off my soapbox for now.....at the end of the day I don't even think these things look like Storm Troopers but rather direct rip offs of Master Chief, the main character in the popular XBOX series Halo.    That was the first thing I noticed and said, "ahh another item pulled right from another popular game, here we go again!"

Lastly as these topics come up on the forum....just a love for how they can be debated rationally and maturely....Go NoBS!

I played cowboys and indians growing up and have even played video games with guns, and I dont think it has anything to do with why gun killings are on the rise. It comes down to good parenting and a thing called whipping that azz. I use to work in a convience store where alot of kids came in and you would not believe how many of them had parents who could care a less where they were at, what they were doing, and with whom they were hanging around.

Todays society is doomed because we have so many kids having kids, and with this about half have no clue how to be a good parent. Most are concerned with where is the next party or where to score their next drug fix.

I put on my thinking cap...
One of the trailers for membership showed a space type game.  It was not a game where players roamed the kingdom.  So, I'm thinking that the Space Pirates Game itself will not have players wandering and disrupting the various public and player rooms.

While I had my thinking cap on, I went to look on the VFK Main Page to get the link to that particular promotional video. I wanted to add it to this post.  I could not find it.

In my search, I did make an interesting observation. I could not find a link to become a paying member either.    Obviously the founder offers expired long ago.  I'm usually not that much behind---only a bit behind.  Seriously, am I missing something?  Or did the new home page design leave out an on-line way for anyone to join for the enhanced features? It just seems a bit odd, so please correct me if I am missing it.

HI
My grandson had a mania for toy guns when he was little ,even if we took them away he would use his finger or pick up a stick and make out it was a gun,he has since grown out of it. He is a nice polite young man ,so as far as i can see he has done him no harm. People will become what they want to be ,no matter what they have or have not played with.
Also does anybody say stop girls playing with dolls ,it may make them want to get pregnant and have a real doll. I know that is a bit extreme , but same sort of logic.
Anyway i for one look forward to lazer shoot out!
And lastly i am a bit biais ,as the said grandson is called Luke after Luke Skywalker, as his dad is a big Star Wars fan.

I thought I still had the link to that original trailer video that VFK released, but apparently didn't as I couldn't find it in my favorites. However I did a little looking on You Tube and found this which I think is the original trailer (as I remember it). It does show a brief clip of the Space Pirates game, with the flying pirate ships and laser guns firing. Perhaps the storm trooper costumes will be part of this Space Pirates game as VFK advertised it earlier.
Following is the link to the You Tube trailer:

Was this the one that you were referring to Happy?

I hope they will stick with that original concept as I thought it looked like a really cool game.   :2thunbs:

You are correct Happy.  I think that Australian Founder's Membership went away with the new home page layout design, or maybe even when we were able to register for new character's without having to be on a waiting list first.  Which would have been around 8-24, or a few days later at most.  That is when I noticed it being gone from the home page anyway.

So does this mean the Founder's Membership for the Space Age is due out soon?  Since Space Pirates should be coming.   ;)    :lolg:

Since they reorganized home page they made the membership stuff so obvious you miss it.  It is on the top banner as a sub-heading there is News, Top Players, Events, and Memberships.  If you select that you have to log in and then you have the option of the Australian membership package where you will allegedly receive bonus items at your house as well an elusive horse and donate to a charity as well as the items and benefits you actually receive in the game.  Also available are the monthly semi-anual and anual memberships.

With regard to a Space Age membership I would not be surprised - and why not.  On that note, I am not clear when they 3 month membership ends but I am thinking we should start a pool to see if we get all the stuff before it ends, or perhaps the specific date we shall see the final items from the package. :hmmmm:

Wow!  Thanks Add!   :thumb:  I totally missed that about the membership link!  I was so used to it being planted right in front of my nose, that I did miss it when it got moved around!

I did go ahead and log in to check out the membership thing, to see if anything changed.  I did notice this blurb as an update.  I will also post on the original thread about the Australian Membership too.

No idea when that 3-month membership ends for people that paid into being a Founder.  I was under the assumption it ended 3 months after they go "gold", or basically 3 mths. from when they start the VIP Passes for Monthly, 6 Mths. and 1 Year??   :hmmmm:   I hope you guys get your stuff way before then!  But .. I just noticed this update below .. so who knows?   :??:

Quote:

UPDATE: We were not at liberty to discuss this until now, but we have been in negotiations with one of the sacred aboriginal tribes here in Australia, and have just completed arrangements for them to provide the boomerangs which will be sent to the new members.

The boomerangs are being created by hand by one of the aboriginal elders, as part of a project we are supporting to help aboriginal children.

There are obviously a very limited number of these authentic handcrafted aboriginal boomerangs, and when they are gone we will have to end this offer.
